Suzanne J. Wesson

July 11th 1948 - Aug. 11th 2010

Suzanne was a resident of Pass-A-Grille and St. Pete Beach for forty years. From 1984 to 1995, she owned Suzanne's, a women's specialty boutique on Gulf Boulevard. She was semi-retired until Jan. 1st, 2000, when she opened Paradiso, on Pass-A-Grille's historic Eighth Avenue. She was very active within the community as a successful business owner and through the Pass-A-Grille Woman's Club. She served on the St. Pete Beach Historic Board, volunteered for the Taste of Pass-A-Grille and the Beach Goes Pops, and was a member of the Pass-A-Grille Civic Association and the 8th Avenue Merchant Association. Suzanne served on many committees after joining the Woman's Club in 1997-98. They include Recording Secretary (98-99), Exterior House and Grounds (99-01), Special Events (01-02), Community Welfare (03-05), House and Grounds (05-07), Hospitality and Programs. She produced the first fashion show for the club, and many since then, as well as for the City of St. Petersburg throughout the years. She helped with many of the monthly luncheons, served in various capacities for the annual Home Tour (Co-chair, House Captain, Patron Captain and Patron Sponsor, Hospitality). This years Home Tour will be held in her honor. Suzanne loved the beach and she loved to travel, with a particular fondness for the island of Bermuda. Despite her accomplishments, her happiest and proudest moments were with her grandchildren, JR and Pres. Her closest and dearest friend, Elena Bussey, would agree that they were the topic of many of their conversations. Suzanne was born in Padgett's Parrish, Bermuda and moved to Florida at a young age. She was raised as an only child, but as an adult sought to locate a half brother, Ross Frith. She has since had a very close relationship with him and his family, and particularly with her niece Tami Pesek. Suzanne was a cancer survivor, diagnosed in her thirties. She was able to overcome the disease, however, as a result, experienced residual health complications. Over the last decade those complications had become more debilitating. She passed away on Aug. 11th. Suzanne is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Barbara Metzler; her grandchildren, Michael Jr. and Prescott, and many more loved ones and friends. Her contributions to her community and her love and commitment to her friends and family will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the S.P.C.A of Pinellas in her memory. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 21, 10:30 am at Pass-A-Grille Community Church, 107-16th Ave., St. Pete Beach.
