Upham Beach T-Groins Will Soon Be Replaced With Jetties

“During a presentation at the June 26 St. Pete Beach City Commission meeting, John Bishop outlined the current status of the project and the direction it is expected to go in coming months.

Bishop explained that five geotextile T-groins, which are yellow fabric tubes similar to sand bags, have prevented sand erosion in the past but are now worn out. Because of that, sand has washed out of the area.

They will be replaced by the four rock jetties – a project that is expected to take 12 to 15 months. Funding is coming from the state and county.” – By BOB McCLURE
